Organic Kodo Millet Upma


πŸ›’ Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Organic Kodo Millet (Kodon)
  • 2.5 cups water πŸ’§
  • 1 tbsp cold-pressed coconut oil or ghee πŸ₯₯ (optional)
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds 🌱
  • 1 tsp urad dal (optional)
  • 1 tsp chana dal (optional)
  • 1–2 green chilies, finely chopped 🌢️
  • 1-inch piece ginger, grated 🫚
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped πŸ§…
  • 8–10 curry leaves 🌿
  • 1/4 cup carrot, finely chopped πŸ₯•
  • 1/4 cup green peas (fresh or frozen) πŸƒ
  • Salt to taste πŸ§‚
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish) 🌿
  • Juice of 1/2 a lemon πŸ‹ (optional)

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³ Instructions:

1️⃣ Prep Millet
Rinse Kodo millet 2–3 times. Soak for 15–20 minutes for faster cooking.

2️⃣ Tempering
Heat oil/ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.

3️⃣ Add Dal & Aromatics
Toss in urad dal and chana dal; sautΓ© till golden. Add green chilies, ginger, curry leaves, and onion. Cook until onion turns translucent.

4️⃣ Veggies
Add carrots and peas. SautΓ© for 2–3 minutes till slightly soft.

5️⃣ Toast Millet
Drain and add soaked millet. Stir for 1–2 minutes to toast.

6️⃣ Cook
Add water and salt. Bring to a boil. Lower heat, cover, and simmer for 12–15 minutes until millet is soft and water is absorbed.

7️⃣ Rest & Serve
Turn off heat. Rest for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork.

8️⃣ Garnish
Top with fresh coriander and lemon juice before serving. πŸŒΏπŸ‹
